Hey folks. I’m seriously thinking of restarting the podcast. After catching up with some of the old guard on Twitter ( tartan, Rowley )  I’m starting to get a tad nostalgic.

The problem before was more one of time and energy. I was working full time and trying to get episodes recorded and streesing about correct formatting of RSS enclosures etc. Usually at midnight!.

Now that I literally have bags of time on my hands, not to mention a very goood mic it may be time to break out garageband for another round.

Got a have a think about show formats etc, but given the amount of ‘preperation’ that went into the last lot that shouldn’t be too much of  a problem. Also, while I was hosting with typepad before, i’m thinking of moving across to libsyn, which seems to make the whole thing a bit less painful.

Of course, anyone who knows me will realise that I change my mind on sh*t like this very often so if I can maintain my enthusiam for the rest of the week ( it’s Friday ) we may be onto something.

What do recruitment agents actually do all day?

Having been out of work for three months now, I seem to have a lot of thinking time on my hands. At three a.m this very morning,  I found myself struggling with the above question with very little success.

For the record, I am signed up with no less than five digital recruitment agencies who all claim to be in the top 20 new media agencies in London blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

Every other day I will get a call from one of said agencie that goes a little like this:

‘hey, how are you mate? all well? are you currently looking for work permanent and freelance??’

‘yes, it’s exactly the same as well you called  a week ago with that great position you spoke about’

‘okay, great!. We have position X, which we know you will be perfect for, can you get to oooh…Hemel Hempstead?’

‘yes, I am prepared to travel…as I was a week ago when you asked the same question’

‘okay great, we’ll get your CV across now, but please, please, please don’t tell the other useless agencies about this role!’

Now I really wish at this point they would add

‘…also, don’t expect any form of acknowledgement or a call back because we haven’t got a cat’s chance in hell off getting you an interview. Let’s face it, no one wants to pay our extortionate costs anyway. sorry mate!’

If they are simply there to dangle the carrot of work then they are doing a fantastic job but as for actually getting me paid empoyment they are sucking. badly.  I’d love to see what their hit / miss ratio is.

Right, back to bed until the next phone call…
